According to an United Nations food index report, an alarming 33% of all food produced winds up being lost or wasted, costing the global economy close to a trillion dollars each year. So, this week on On the House: The Household Management Science Insights Podcast, host Gabriella Joustra is joined by Aakanksha Bhatia to learn more about cutting our losses by transforming food trash into treasure.
A doctoral scholar in the Indian Institute of Technology’s Department of Management Studies, Aakanksha Bhatia’s work is largely associated with food security concerns in developing economies, including food waste and food security index. That aside, she also currently serves as assistant professor of economics at Galgotias University.

Food waste lurking in your bins? You’re not alone. Based in Australia, Claire develops and implements programmes across WRAP’s focus areas, and on top of that, works with End Food Waste Australia leading the delivery of Australia’s halving food waste target.

Currently, she serves as assistant professor of practice at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Social Work, where she created a course on environmental justice and green social work, and to add, is a clinical social work supervisor.
